The Truth Untold: Police vs Police (Part 1)

In July 2022 and still ongoing, there is a case about the mysterious death of Police Brigadier, Joshua Hutabarat or we said Brigadier J. This case seems so odd in several ways. Many people are witnesses and suspects. 

Some people will be included in the whole story, among them there are:

• Brigadier J. The dead victim, a 3rd-level Warrant Police (Bintara), start his carrier in 2012. Brigadier J is known as a sniper in the police department where he work. Starting in 2019 he was assigned to be a police aide under Irjen FS.
• Irjen FS. Irjen is a Police Inspector General that is a high-rank officer in Police Department. Irjen FS start his career from 1994, almost 28 years on duty. He has 8 police aides included Brigadier J. His father is an ex-regional police chief in North Sumatra province.
• Putri C. She is Irjen FS’s wife and the daughter of a retired Brigadier General of the Military. Putri C also has a degree as a dentist.
• Bharada E. One of Irjen FS’s aides and the youngest one. Bharada is the lowest rank in the Indonesian police department, nevertheless Bharada E is the best sniper in his regiment.

Timeline:

• Friday, July 8th 2022 at 18:00, POLRI cluster area Duren 3, South Jakarta.

Gunshots were heard by the local security guard but he thought it was firecrackers. At that time, Irjen FS reported the shootout to South Jakarta’s Police Station.

19:00 – 20:00

Brigadier J rushed to the Police Hospital directly for autopsy. The result said that cause of the death is 7 gunshots and 5 of them stayed in his body. 1) the back of the head through to the nose 2) the lower lip through to the jawline and collarbone 3) under the eyes 4) the little finger 5) the wrist 6) the chest and 7) the side armpit. The forensics doctor said Brigadier J died at 17.00.

Midnight

Putri C reported Brigadier J for attempted harassment and threats of violence. Also, there are type A reports that Brigadier J reports attempted murder (type A reports that can only be made by members of the police who have experienced or witnessed the incident firsthand).

• Saturday, July 9th 2022

The body was returned to Jambi, Brigadier J’s hometown. The police handed over all of Brigadier J's belongings except his cell phone. The officers guarded it tightly, and the house was immediately closed when the body arrived. The police forbid family members to hold cell phones and not be allowed to take any photos or videos. Family members were asked to sign the letter of acceptance of the body, but they forbade the family to open the coffin because it had been autopsied. The family kept the coffin open after it was formalized. The family was shocked when they saw his body because not only gunshot wounds like the autopsy results but also other injuries visibly can be seen. There’s an incision wound under his eyes, two stitches on his nose, an incision wound on his lips, unkempt teeth, an incision wound on his neck, a scar on his neck, bruises on his stomach, two fingers were broken, a hole on his hand and sharp object wound on right leg.

• July 11th 2022

Brigadier J was buried without any official police ceremony. After 3 days after Brigadier J’s death, Police Public Relations has just opened to the public about this case. 

• July 26th 2022

Bharada E went to Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights to testify about the chronology of what happened.

Chronology Bharada E version:

• Bharada E arrived with a group from Magelang at Irjen FS' private house, and then the aide went to the official residence for self-isolation.
• While Bharada E went up to his room to rest he heard Putri C scream.
• When Bharada E came down, he saw Brigadier J holding a gun. Bharada E asked Brigadier J what happened but Bharada E was immediately shot by Brigadier J. Because he felt threatened, Bharada E retreated, took a weapon and shot Brigadier J in self-defence. After Brigadier J kneels, Bharada E adds 2 more shots to make sure he can’t attack him.
• Supported by the testimony of Bripka R saw Brigadier J shoot towards Bharada E.

• July 27th 20222

The family requested a re-autopsy and appointed a different doctor from RSCM (a prestigious hospital). 

 

The discrepancies found in this case are as follows:

• Family received the blank autopsy report
• In the death certificate, the data is wrong. It says that the age is 21, and the resident number is not listed
• There have been threats since June received by Brigadier J, the last threat was on 7 July.
• Brigadier J just called his girlfriend and said to stay away from him to find another guy because he received death threats from the "old squad"
• On July 23, 2022, the crime scene reenactment is not published
• The timeline doesn't match. He had texted his family with an estimate from Magelang-Jakarta for 7 hours (arrived at 17.00) while the report said he was dead at 17.00.
• There are 5 Brigadier J’s family cellphones that can't access WhatsApp for 2 days, they suspect they have been hacked because many chats have been deleted.
• Irjen FS’ alibi is he was doing PCR, but for high-rank police, PCR should be performed at home. And there is no evidence that he is doing PCR.
• CCTV of the crime scene for 2 weeks was damaged by lightning.
• The neighbors didn't hear gunshots. Even the head of the cluster doesn't know at all.
• They said they shootout, but Bharada E did not get shot at all, even though Brigadier J claimed to have fired 7 shots of which he was a sniper.

This case is yet to be closed and still have many trials in the future.
