Police launch investigation into 'MBC reporter's murder notice'

Garam 22/11/2022

An article threatening the personal safety of an MBC reporter who asked a protest question to the president at the doorstep of the presidential office and argued with the presidential secretary was posted on the Internet.

Along with a video of a reporter on a far-right Internet website, a citizen who saw the post reported to the police, saying, "I will go to MBC right away and harm the reporter." This article is currently deleted. Upon receiving the report, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency launched an investigation by pursuing the author's Internet protocol address. Mapo Police Station in Seoul, which has jurisdiction over the location of MBC's headquarters, has implemented personal protection measures for reporters who were threatened with murder.

The incident began when MBC broadcasted a report that he met President Joe Biden in New York on the occasion of the U.N. General Assembly on the 21st and made remarks that seemed to disparage the U.S. Congress in slang. In response, President Yoon strongly criticized MBC for manipulating it.

And on a presidential trip last week, the presidential office took retaliatory measures, saying it would exclude MBC reporters from boarding private jets. In response, President Yoon said in a door stepping on his way to work on the 18th, "It was a reasonable sign because MBC showed malicious behavior." The reporter said strongly, asking, "What did MBC do wrong?" is believed to be the cause of the threat.

MBC plans to take strong measures such as requesting an investigation and filing a complaint against the author who posted threatening messages on the Internet, and is considering whether to take legal action.
